The Lottery
This past week in class we read the short story "The Lottery." After we talked about it in class we had to write about a possible theme we found in the story. I wrote about how people cant change traditions that easily. I think that people are stuck in their own ways and it takes alot for them to adopt a new ability or tradition. Even if the person's current tradition is harmful for themselves or others around them. If a person is raised in a certain mindset or a way of doing things they rarely change those ways.

Animal Rights
We read the freedom and confinement poetry section this week. It was about animals and i'm guessing animal rights. The one titled snake by D.H. Lawrence was about a snake coming up to the narrator and the narrator debating on what they should do about it. They finally decided to throw a stick at it after it was on it's way back down the snakehole. I am not a big fans of snakes but this one made me look at them in a different light almost. They descibed a different side of snakes that i'm not used to hearing about from stories or poems.
Wookchucks was written by Maxine Kumin and was about some woodchucks that were pestering the narrator's garden. The narrator tried to gas the woodchucks at first but it did not work so they resorted to shooting them one by one. The narrator auctually seemed to be having fun while killing the little chipmunks and auctually turned it into a kind of game. It kind of highlighted how killing animals can be a bit addictive.

Poetry: Robert Frost
We have been reading poetry for the last few days of English class. One of the more recent assignments were some poems by the author Robert Frost. In that set of poems there was one titled “The Road not Taken.” I translated it as a poem with the simple message of just be yourself. I think that I translated it that way because it talks about making a choice between to paths to go down; one of which was well traveled, and the other was very seldom traveled by the looks of it. He took the path that was less traveled which sent me the meaning that he was talking about doing your own thing instead of just doing what everyone else does. However, there can be many different translations to every poem so there is no telling if that is what he had in mind when he was writing the poem, but that is the upside of poetry: it’s real hard to be wrong in your translations.

Evaluating a source
The source that i evaluated was http://www.si.edu/ It is the smithsonian website. I believe that it will be useful for my paper because it seems as if it will be a credible website. First off it has edu as a domain which means education. that is usually a good sign. It has alot of credible sources fir it's information. Auctually it's a world renown encyclopedia, that should mean something. If it has any information on what i choose to do my report on than it will more than likely prove to be a good website to get information from. Every one of the links on it take you to another credible place also. They tend to be government or higher education credentials. That's why i believe that this will be a good place to go for information for my report.

My interprettion of Nirvana's "come as you are"
the song come as you are is by the band nirvana.
The lyrics are as follows:
Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As a known enemy
Take your time, hurry up
Choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old
Memory, yeah x4
Come dowsed in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend
As an old
Memory, yeah x4
And I swear that I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun, no, I don't have a gun
Memory, yeah x4
(No, I don't have a gun)
And I swear that I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun, no, I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun, no, I don't have a gun
Memory, yeah x4
I believe that the song means that you should always be yourself, not matter what others think about you. I think that it's saying that what other people think about you cant kill you, and that everybody tries to change how they appear to other people to the point that they come dangerously close to forgetting who they really are.

Social Media
Social media can differ from our reading because it isnt all good or all bad, like the reading makes it seem. Twitter is fun to do because it makes you feel like people care about what your doing, even though they really dont. Haha. Myspace isnt as popular as it used to be im guessing because no one even uses it anymore. Facebook is checked before im or email by most people.
Twitter may be microblogging i am assuming and as the book said it is very discouraging for new users, but if they get past that initial few days and get some followers it becomes fun. However it isnt always about what you are doing or thinking about, lately there's a bunch of tagged posts on twitter and thats usually what you see in the news feed.
